Marwen Blue (Marwen Abouda) — scenographer, visual artist and composer, artist of Collectif Debo

Scenographer · Visual Artist · Composer & Performer — Collectif DEBO · Tunis

Biography

Marwen Abouda, known as Marwen Blue, is a multidisciplinary artist, scenographer and composer based in Tunis. A graduate of the École Supérieure des Sciences et Technologies du Design (ESSTD) in Space Design and Scenography, his work explores the intersections between body, sound and light.

He pursues an immersive, hybrid practice built around three fundamental axes: narrative, sonic and videographic scenography. This singular signature was shaped by major stage experiences and emblematic international residencies, notably at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (2014), as well as through collaborations with key figures of the theatre and music scenes.

A passionate educator, Marwen Abouda has shared his expertise for over a decade. A former teacher at the ESSTD, the ESAC and the Lycée Pierre Mendès France in Tunis, he also works as a trainer in scenography and space design within festivals and local institutions.

Stages & Residencies

His creations and performances have been presented on prestigious platforms such as Theater der Welt (Mannheim), the Ruhrtriennale (Essen), Bipod (Beirut) and the Shubbak festival (London).

Commitment & Teaching

Today, he designs and leads innovative training modules and workshops — such as the Production Non Visible workshop (co-organized with Debo & UN Women) and the Ateliers Éphémères — passing on an engaged vision of scenography, sound arts and digital arts.

In theatre, film and live performance, he creates immersive worlds where video and sound become true dramatic materials.

Stage Career & Works

After collaborating as assistant scenographer with Kays Rostom on landmark productions (Ibnou Khaldoun by Mohamed Kouka and Ezzedine El Madani, Médéa and Le Procès by Fadhel Jaïbi, Dowaha by Raja Amari, and Nostoi), he now signs the scenography, artistic direction or sound creation of large-scale projects.

These include: Les Enfants Perdus at the Théâtre National Tunisien (2018), the dance piece Zwez by Cyrinne Douss (2018), the play Député by Talel Ayoub (2023), as well as the documentaries Entre Deux (2018) and Manwella (2022) by Sahar Euchi.

In parallel, he designs the spatial identity of major cultural events, from Fashion Week Tunis (2009) to the Journées Musicales de Carthage ceremonies (2015), and up to the Layali Slimania festival (2025).

Performer & Musician

As a performer, musician and director, he explores digital and visual aesthetics through solo and collective projects such as Wajd (2010–2015), Hamju (Échos Électriques, 2017), Symbiotic (2019), Sonic Totem with Floy Krouchi (2019), In Cube and Arborium at the Fabrika Festival (2024–2025), and his visual collaboration with Ahmed Litaiem’s Rebirth Quartet (2025).

His flagship project Phosphène (2021–2026), spun from experimental documentary to concert-performance, reflects his ongoing research into multisensory perception.

2026 — New Horizons

The year 2026 confirms the maturity of his practice with the scenography, musical composition and performance of the show Au-delà du miroir (produced by the Tunis Opera), the scenography of the play Hams Essahari by Hafedh Zellit, and the design of the immersive installations In Situ and Magic Jungle for Gravity Fantasy Land.
