Commanding the Iconic Stage: Erkez Hip-Hop at the Festival de Carthage
On August 12, 2023, the Collectif DEBO project Erkez Hip-Hop achieved a historic milestone by taking over the legendary stage of the Festival de Carthage. Far from a standard live show, the collective presented a completely reimagined and rearranged special edition of their performance, elevating the Tunisian underground sound to an unprecedented scale.
The Frontline & The Fusion
At the core of the performance was the signature fusion of rap, jazz, rock, and traditional mezoued. The stage was commanded by the collective’s heavyweights:
- The MCs: Vipa, Massi, and Tiga Black’na brought their relentless energy and engaged lyricism, representing the pure essence of Tunisian hip-hop.
- The Melody: Dali Chebil anchored the traditional elements, bringing his powerful vocals to create the unique symphony that defines the Erkez sound.
The Massive Sonic Architecture
To scale the music for the Carthage amphitheater, the collective expanded its musical foundation.
- The Arrangements: The tracks were given a massive new dimension through the collaborative genius of arrangers Jihed Khmiri and Makrem Radhouani, ensuring every beat hit with cinematic intensity.
- The Choir: Adding a profound layer of depth, the performance was backed by a 12-piece choir, meticulously directed by Mhamoud Turki, delivering powerful vocal harmonies that echoed through the ancient venue.
The Visual Execution
A show of this magnitude required an equally captivating visual narrative. The stage direction and visual execution were collaboratively orchestrated by Zied Litayem and Marwen Rouine, who brought the raw, artistic vision of Erkez Hip-Hop to life under the Carthage lights.
This 2023 performance remains a definitive moment in the Collectif DEBO timeline, proving that the uncompromising sound of the underground belongs on the biggest stages in the world.
