Closing Out 2016: “Tchedou m’debo [01 Mixtape]”
On December 28, 2016, Collectif DEBO capped off a monumental year for the underground scene by dropping the “Tchedou m’debo [01 Mixtape]”. Serving as the direct follow-up to the 00 Mixtape released earlier that same year, this 9-track compilation delivers a highly concentrated, 25-minute run of pure hip-hop energy, showcasing the evolving dynamic of the crew.
The Vocal Roster
While the previous mixtape laid the massive 15-track foundation, Tchedou m’debo tightens the focus, allowing individual MCs to command the space.
- The Heavyweights: Vipa sets a relentless pace right from the Intro (ejry) and anchors the tape with standout solo cuts like Kaskrout.
- The Collaborators: The tape shines a massive spotlight on the wider DEBO family. ElMassi takes over You better don’t know and teams up seamlessly with Vipa on In da haha. Meanwhile, Scoop steps into the arena with the heavy-hitting Rocking my zone.
- The Features: The project is rounded out by a sharp interlude from Katybon, and hard-hitting appearances from DIB (on the collaborative track Routine) and Taxi closing out the mixtape on Alfin woo mitin.
The Sonic Architecture
Beneath the dense lyricism, the mixtape is driven by the collective’s relentless in-house production engine. Tracks like Rassik haka and Routine are masterclasses in the gritty, sample-heavy DEBO sound, providing the exact sonic architecture needed to let the roster’s MCs completely unload on the mic.
