Musical project “Théosophie”
By Jihed Khmiri
In this first solo project, Jihed Khmiri invites you on a journey to the higher mystical spheres, through a one-of-a-kind performance where the Sufi texts of « Aboulhassan Al Chedhouli », the songs of the St Augustine Cathedral (South Africa) and experimental music intertwine. Made up of five talented musicians, the « Théosophie » project refers to an esoteric philosophical system through which the human being strives to know « the Divine » and the mysteries of truth.
In every era and every corner of the world, music has been the celestial ladder by which the spirit seeks its spiritual paths toward the divine. In a breath of communion, the rhythms of music and song work to attune our beings to the world. Every note, every silence, every composition inscribes and describes the sought-after ascent toward an ultimate, ecstatic summit. By naming his musical project « Théosophie », percussionist Jihed Khmiri launched this quest in 2014. « Théosophie » is a unique experimental musical project based on improvisation, at the crossroads of various mystical cultures. Drawing on intercultural references such as the texts of Abou Hassan Al Chadhili (also known as Sidi Belhassen Chedly) or excerpts from the songs of the famous St Augustine Cathedral in South Africa, the musicians will experiment with the arrangements. Each one, through his instrument and virtuosity, can thus build his improvisation toward a collective performance, renewed every time.
With Jihed Khmiri on percussion, Ayoub Rekik on guitar, Trappa on machines and Zied Bagga, Med Ali Chbil and Mahmoud Turki on vocals, the « Théosophie » project aims to be the pursuit of a musical trance. Beyond a journey into the higher mystical spheres, as a project « Théosophie » is also an experience open to diverse cultures and intends to be a meeting place for all the musicians of the world whose concern for research lies in this exploration of the spiritual through its royal road: music and its mystical practice. The project thus works to reach out to artists who share the same perspectives, the same aspirations.
