Creation in Confinement: Trappa’s “1 الأڨدام”

On April 18, 2020, as the world ground to a halt during the coronavirus lockdowns, Collectif DEBO proved that the creative process cannot be confined. The collective released “1 الأڨدام” (Al Aqdam 1), an intricate, remote collaboration orchestrated and produced entirely by Trappa. This project stands as a historical archive of unity and artistic endurance during a period of global isolation.

To build a track without being in the same room, the foundation had to be flawless. Trappa laid down the core production and arrangement, creating a seamless bed for the live musicians to record their isolated parts over. The result is a massive acoustic-electronic fusion featuring:

The visual concept required translating physical isolation into a unified piece of art. A roster of elite dancers filmed their choreography in their own confined spaces, bringing the heavy rhythms of the track to life:

To transform these isolated audio and video recordings into a cohesive masterpiece, video editor Saif Raïs took on the massive task of syncing the complex rhythms and remote choreography into one unbroken, driving visual timeline.
